The role
The General Ledger (GL) Accountant is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, ensuring compliance with accounting standards, and supporting month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes. The role performs general ledger accounting activities, reconciliations, financial reporting, and statutory compliance while partnering with finance teams across the business to ensure the integrity of financial data.
As a General Ledger Accountant at IPL you will:
Prepare and post journal entries, accruals, prepayments, and adjustments.
Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts, including intercompany balances and fixed asset accounting.
Support month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close activities, including balance sheet reconciliations and variance analysis.
Analyze P&L and balance sheet accounts to ensure completeness, accuracy, and compliance with company policies.
VAT reporting, preparation of monthly VAT reports and returns.
Assist with statutory financial statements, management reports, budgeting, and forecasting activities as required.
Ensure compliance with IFRS, local accounting regulations, internal controls, and audit requirements.
Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, reporting efficiency, automation, and standardization across the finance function.
What you will bring to the role:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or a related discipline.
Professional accounting qualification such as ACCA, CIMA, ACA, CPA, or active pursuit of certification is preferred.
3–5 years of experience in General Ledger Accounting, Record-to-Report (R2R), or Financial Accounting.
Experience within a Shared Services Centre (SSC) or multinational environment is advantageous.
Experience supporting multiple legal entities and international stakeholders is preferred.
