Role Overview
As Tax Director you will develop, lead, manage and monitor the global tax affairs for the business. You will develop and implement the group policies, establishing and operating a world-class tax function and ensuring adequate coverage of all aspects of tax. As a member of the finance leadership team, you will provide leadership and advice on strategic projects, while enhancing finance as a critical and integrated business partner. You will also play an integral part in supporting further growth strategy of the business with responsibility for providing tax advice to the Global Leadership Team to support complex global projects. You will be a skilled leader who can manage a team of tax professionals while collaborating closely with cross-functional departments, including finance, legal, and operations. You will have a robust knowledge of tax and transfer pricing laws pertaining to manufacturing industry but will also possess excellent analytical and problem-solving skills. You will play a key role in anticipating tax implications of business decisions, guiding the company through compliance challenges, and identifying opportunities for tax savings. In addition, the role will need to work closely with the group treasury function, with both functions to consolidate in the medium term under the successful candidate. The treasury function has responsibility to the group treasury strategy across cash, liquidity, funding, and FX focused on long-term treasury planning, strategic vision development, and execution.
· Reviewing potential transactions in a variety of jurisdictions to identity any tax issues, proposing any potentially more tax efficient ways of completing the transaction and ensuring any external advice is appropriately implemented.
· Ownership of and responsibility for all statutory direct and indirect tax returns liaising with any 3rd party services where required.
Lead the tax strategy for IPL ensuring all business is conducted in the most tax efficient manner.
· Ensure up to date knowledge of all legal and regulatory requirements in all IPL Locations, ensuring that there is an awareness of risk and proactive management of any that may arise.
· Provide support and guidance to the HR function in tax and mobility issues.
· Ownership of both tax specific projects and business as usual/day to day tax function.
· Develop and implement strategic tax planning initiatives to minimize tax liabilities.
· Oversee the preparation and review of federal, state, and international tax returns.
· Collaborate with finance, legal, and operational teams to ensure alignment of tax strategies with overall business objectives.
· Monitor changes in tax laws and regulations to ensure compliance and provide proactive advice to ELT.
· Manage relationships with external tax advisors and auditors to facilitate effective tax compliance and planning processes
· Oversee debt compliance, covenant monitoring, and group financing structures
· Deliver treasury risk management framework
Qualifications and Experience
· Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; Master’s degree or CPA preferred.
· 7 to 10 years of progressive tax post qualification experience.
· Chartered Tax Advisor with relevant tax institute membership
· Proven experience managing global corporate tax functions across multiple jurisdictions
· Strong background in international tax planning, transfer pricing, and cross-border structuring
· Experience with tax compliance and reporting under US GAAP (ASC 740) and/or IFRS
· Demonstrated success in leading tax audits and managing relationships with tax authorities
· Hands-on experience with indirect taxes (VAT, GST, sales/use tax) and customs duties
· Familiarity with tax implications of manufacturing and supply chain operations
· Experience supporting M&A transactions, including due diligence and post-deal integration is an advantage
· Proficiency in ERP systems and tax technology platforms
· Track record of developing and implementing global tax strategies aligned with business goals
· Experience working in a public company or with SEC reporting requirements is a plus
· Exposure to environmental and sustainability-related tax issues, such as plastic taxes or carbon levies
