The role
As Plant Director, you will be responsible for the financial and operational performance of the plant. You will ensure the efficient and safe production of high-quality packaging products, manage financial budgets, and maintain compliance with industry standards and regulations. You will work to optimize processes, improve productivity, and drive continuous improvement initiatives. Additionally, this role involves strategic planning to meet customer demands, talent management to foster a skilled workforce, and problem-solving to address operational challenges. The Plant Director plays a crucial role in steering the plant towards achieving its business objectives and maintaining a competitive edge in the market. The role is fully accountable for driving the growth agenda for the site.
Oversee all operational activities for the plant
Promote a culture of “safety first” and environmental sustainability
Continuously improving the quality of products to meet the set standards and customers’ requirements
Managing the performance and development of the team to ensure business continuity and fulfil succession planning goals
Controlling expenditure and managing capital requirements within a set budgets
Building effective professional working relationships with internal and external stakeholders
Developing and implementing a comprehensive maintenance program for the plant
Implement communication framework to establish a clear direction and focus on priorities
Define areas for improvement, drive change and demonstrate results with data
Hire talent and develop a best-in-class functional teams
Be the plant sponsor for employee engagement, retention initiatives and programs
Develop systems and processes to ensure site level procurement activities are at or better than standard cost while aligned to and supporting global supply chain initiatives
Represent the plant at global and regional functional meetings
Qualifications and Experience
Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Business Administration, or a related field.
Minimum of ten years of plant supervisory experience, including three years in operations management within the plastics packaging industry.
Proven success in managing operations, overseeing functions such as accounting, finance, safety, human resources, and quality.
Certifications in Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or Project Management will be an advantage.
Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate and develop staff at all levels.
Expertise in Lean Manufacturing principles and process improvement methodologies like Six Sigma.
Effective project management skills, including planning, executing, and closing projects while balancing time, cost, and scope.
Ability to collect, analyze, and interpret data to identify trends, improve quality, and reduce costs.
Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving skills to identify issues and find practical solutions
